Lola - Zytek

The Lola - Zytek was used in the A1GP season 2005/2006, 2006/2007 and 2007/ 2008.

The car completed its first test drives in August 2004 and has been doing piloted by Stephen Watson and Ralph Firman; The latter took over the further test work. In the test runs in terms of engine compatibility of E30 fuel before the third season Jonny Kane was driving.

The car has a length of 4833 mm is not wider than 1930 mm and has a maximum height of 1056 mm. The wheelbase is 3000 mm and the front track 1476 mm and 1468 mm rear. It has a weight of 695 kg.

Chassis and components

Designed and manufactured by International Lola chassis is made of a honeycomb aluminum structure that is covered by a layer of carbon fiber. It is on the left and right of the cockpit equipped with special plates that are designed to protect the driver optimally against a side impact. The individual vehicle components such as the front and rear wings are also made of a pre-impregnated carbon fiber composite ( " prepreg "). The car has a transverse sequential six-speed gearbox, which was developed by Lola in collaboration with X -Trac. The transmission housing is made of magnesium, the straight -tooth gears of a steel mixture. The entire complex transmission is installed laterally in order to ensure a better distribution of weight and greater compactness. The individual gears are inserted by means of a paddle shift on the steering wheel, for whose development is Zytek Engineering is responsible. The steering wheel manufactured by Sparco has a digital display, has a diameter of 280 mm and for today's motor sports conditions typical flattened design. The car is equipped with AP- disc brakes, which are made of a steel alloy and feature a caliper with four pistons. The two post each suspension front and rear are of the type " push rod" and are provided with triple dampers.

Motor

The specially developed by Zytek Engineering for this car 3.4-liter V8 engine bears the name ZA1348. It produces an output of approximately 520 hp, with 30 additional horsepower can be unlocked with the so-called Power Boost button. Composed of an aluminum alloy engine includes an advanced electronic fuel injection, four camshafts and four valves per cylinder and weighs only 120 kilograms. Its durability is calculated so that two motors are sufficient to survive a full season.

Fuels and lubricants

From the beginning of the first season up to and including the Zhuhai race weekend 2007 was unleaded gasoline with an octane number (RON ) of 100 as a fuel. From Taupo 2008 to the end of the third season of environmentally friendly fuel Hiperflo ™ E30 was used. This is 30 percent of ethanol, which is obtained from sugar beet grown in Europe. The aim was thus the CO2 - emissions by 21 percent and reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides ( see A1GP # Ecological approaches).

As a lubricant for the dry sump lubrication Mobil 1 fully synthetic oil was used.

Tire

The tires on the car were manufactured by Cooper Tires. They came in two specifications: as profile-free dry tires ( slicks ) and as rain tires. Rubber compound and tread latter has been adjusted so that they both which meet the requirements in monsoon rains drying track.

For use come zwölfspeichige rims from OZ. The width of the front wheels is 11.75 inches, that of the rear wheels 16 inches; at a diameter of 13 inches.

Security

Before the first race the car had to go through the usual crash tests of the FIA. Among other things, the roll bar is a load of 7.5 tonnes and the chassis has been subjected to a frontal collision at a speed of 12 meters per second, which forces up to 60 g. As is common in higher racing classes is a precisely matched to the driver's body, removable in an emergency seat for use. A padded headrest with Conforfoam intended to reduce the exposure of the head with changing g - forces. In addition to a Sparco six -point harness and the now mandatory in the motorsport scene HANS system to guarantee the safety of the driver.

Aerodynamics

The car was designed by Lola International so that it generates very little "Dirty Air". This is a denser driving up to the vehicle ahead and thus better opportunities for overtaking will be possible. The specially developed front wing to increase this effect. The aerodynamics have been first studied by CFD and wind tunnel tested.

Cameras

The basic equipment of the car include seven cameras, each one of which in addition to the pursuit of the front suspension ( forward, produces a flat view of the route), the cockpit rim ( backwards focused on the driver), the roll bar (to the front, classic view ), about the shoulder of the driver ( forward in the cockpit ) and below the rear wing ( backward ), two on the sides of the rear wing ( attached to the front). Over the seasons, new camera positions have been tried again and again, so it was, for example during race weekend in Zhuhai 2007 "Motor Camera".

By car accelerations of 3.5 g and a top speed of up to 290 km / h reached. It achieves the 0-100 km / h in four seconds.

Auto GP

The Lola - Zytek is under the name Lola B05/52 since 2009 - with updated front and rear wings, new fin in the engine cover ( now type " shark fin ") and Michelin tires - used in the Auto GP series.

A1- Ferrari

The A1 Ferrari came in the 2008/2009 A1GP season for use. The chassis has been developed and built under the direction of John Travis, the Technical Director of the series, and with the support of the former Ferrari designer Rory Byrne in a factory in Bognor Regis ( UK ), said last as a model Byrnes Formula 1 car the Ferrari F2004, served with the team from Maranello 2004, the driver and won Constructors' World Championship.

End of May 2008 went through the A1 Ferrari its first shakedown. In the following four months before the season started, he was subjected to extensive testing, with Andrea Bertolini, Thomas Biagi, Patrick Friesacher, Marc Gené, Jonny Kane and Danny Watts as a test driver were used.

The car is 4814 mm long. It has a wheelbase of 3100 mm and gauges of 2014 mm (front) and 2028 mm (rear) - each with tires - and weighs up to 695 kg with driver, but without fuel. The ground clearance is 27 mm.

Chassis and components

This chassis also serves as a backbone an aluminum honeycomb structure which is encased by a sheathing made of carbon fibers. Attachments such as front and rear wings are made of lightweight composite materials. The car features a sequential six-speed gearbox along running. The steering wheel is comparable in its decor and its appearance with that of the Lola racing cars - with digital display and a diameter of 280 mm also. The car has disc brakes from Brembo with Carbon brake discs and aluminum calipers, which have six pistons. As a damper two way adjustable Penske VBP -45 are used. The fuel tank from ATL has a capacity of around 150 liters and is designed to accommodate fuel with up to 50 -percent ethanol content. When coupling is a dreiplattige carbon-carbon version with steel hub of AP.

Motor

Developed by Ferrari SpA 90 degree V8 engine has a volume of 4500 cm ³. It produces an output of 600 hp ( 448 kW) at Power Boost button is activated. Composed of an aluminum alloy engine includes a fuel injection. The cylinder block is made by aluminum die casting, cylinder head by sand casting. It is 666.5 mm wide, 446 mm high and 569 mm long. It weighs 160 kg and generates a torque of 550 Nm. His spark come from NGK, the engine management takes over the engine control unit Bosch MED 9.6.

Fuel

As a fuel, E10 fuel from Shell comes with an octane number (RON ) of 102 employed.

Tire

The tires for the car to be produced by Michelin. They are manufactured in two versions: as slick and as rain tires. The front tires weigh 10.3 kg and 11.4 kg rear, with the rear tire for rainy conditions a bit narrower and a little lighter ( 11.2 kg ).

The front wheels have a width of 12 inches, the rear wheels of a 14 inches; each with a diameter of 13 inches.

Security

The car has been tested to all applicable safety standards of the FIA to accidents. The driver's integrity should be guaranteed by a six -point harness by Sabelt in combination with the HANS system.

Aerodynamics

The design is based on that of the Formula 1 Ferrari F2004 - with the advantages and disadvantages of the former aerodynamics configurations. However, care was taken in the wind tunnel studies to maximize the contact pressure of the cars and thus to allow a denser Afterwards driving especially in curves, but without losing too much speed.
