The motorway ( Rijksweg ) A1 starts at the cross Watergraafsmeer in the east of Amsterdam and ends at the German border, where this highway weiterverläuft as A 30 via Osnabrück and finally meets at Bad Oeynhausen to the A 2.
From the Cross Watergraafsmeer to the Cross Hoevelaken the e follows the 231 A1. From the Cross Hoevelaken the E 30 follows the A1 to lead over Apeldoorn, Deventer and Hengelo to Germany.
The Dutch A1 is one of the main transport axes to connect the ports of Hoek van Holland / Rotterdam with Eastern Europe, as well as Hamburg and Scandinavia (the latter via the motorway junction Lotte / Osnabrück). On the route of the A1, there are four wild bridges: at Kootwijk, Hoog Buurlo, Rijssen and Oldenzaal.
