A1 Team Switzerland

A1 Team Switzerland (german stylization: A1Team.Switzerland ) was the Swiss National Team in the A1GP series. It won the title in the 2007/2008 season and was 2005/2006 and 2008/2009 Vice World Champion.

History

A1 Team Switzerland was founded by Max Welti; as team acted in the first season, the French team DAMS, in the second and third season Welti own team Max Motorsport and in the aftermath of the Boer Services from France.

In the first season, the Swiss were among the top teams. After the team in ninth place in the sprint race at Brands Hatch with regular driver Neel Jani at the wheel could retract his first points, he succeeded to the race weekend at the Euro Speedway Lausitz with second place in the sprint race, the first podium. This was followed by the third place in the sprint and second place in the feature race at Estoril and the third place in the feature race of Eastern Creek more podium results. When race weekend at Sepang, the team was first in the pole position, but Jani had to concede defeat to the French team in the final round of the Sprint race. The main race was also stopped by the team in second place. Once again held the pole position in Dubai, Jani managed in the sprint race the first victory; in the main race, he left. By further podium, finishing third in the sprint and a second place in the feature race in Durban as well as a second place in the sprint and a third place in the feature race in Monterrey, the team finally secured the vice-championship with 121 points.

In the following season, the team slipped from the upper midfield. The season highlight was the victory in the sprint race in Sepang by Jani dar. Overall the team scored eleven points results, including five fourth place finishes (two by Jani, three by Sébastien Buemi ). It finished the season in eighth place overall with 50 points.

In the third season, the Swiss with Neel Jani as master pilot were the dominant team. After two third places in the main race at Zandvoort, Brno and it caused a double victory in Sepang for the first highlight. A further three podium finishes ( two second, third place ) followed, before the main race in Durban again a victory could be celebrated. After a third place in the sprint race in Mexico City succeeded in the sprint race in Shanghai, the fourth win of the season. The team walked away with a soothing lead in the last race weekend at Brands Hatch and scored with a fourth place in the sprint race, the preliminary decision in the championship match. The main race finished it in third place. A total of six pole positions underline the strength of the team, which ended up with 168 points was world champion.

In the fourth season, the team still presented strong. With four victories ( achieved in the sprint race at Sepang and the main race in Taupo, Kyalami and Portimão ) and three other podium results, all obtained by Jani, it had only beaten Ireland in the end. 95 points stood at the end to beech, with four more are not included due to the void results control.

A1 Team Switzerland has participated in all 39 race weekends of the A1GP series.

Driver

A1 Team Switzerland put on race weekends, one of eight different drivers, four of whom also took part in the race itself. In addition came the official test at Le Castellet in 2005 Romain Grosjean used.

The most successful rider of the team 's Neel Jani, who can claim most of all A1GP driver with a total of 413 points and also the list of most individual victories with ten ( five in sprint and main race ) leads. In addition, he holds 60 races the record for the most A1GP racing applications.

Honors

After winning the title in the 2007/2008 A1GP season, in December 2008, A1 Team Switzerland won the Autosport Award for special services to the Swiss Motorsport awarded. Previous winners have included Motorsport greats like Jo Siffert, Clay Regazzoni and Peter Sauber.
