A3 Champions Cup
The A3 Champions Cup, also known by his main sponsor as A3 Nissan Champions Cup, was an unofficial (ie, not by FIFA or any of its sub-organizations veranstalteter ) club football competition, attended by the best club teams from Japan, China and South Korea annually to the. The host of the tournament was discontinued due to financial difficulties in 2008.
Background
In Asia, as in Europe ( and also on the European model ), a Champions League, the Association of Asian Football Confederation ( AFC) defines the continental champions. This Asia, is often not nearly as popular as its European counterpart, which is mainly due to the inhomogeneity of the Asian football landscape well:
- The Asian football has traditionally been divided into two different centers: either the West Asian center (Saudi Arabia, United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Iraq, Iran, Qatar) in the west and on the other hand, the East Asian football nations China, South Korea and Japan. Moreover, since football in India and Pakistan makes little difference ( national sport is cricket there ) results, in the vast distances that give rise to no real competition atmosphere as trips to away games for the most followers remain prohibitive.
- Furthermore, the Arab- Muslim and the East Asian world have always remained culturally foreign. Real rivalry comes about as not between Korean and Arab societies. Therefore, the Arab teams since the 80s play along with those from North Africa (especially Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia) to the Arab Champions League ( Iran does not participate in this tournament, because it is not an Arab country ) that there on significantly more viewers interested encounters.
- This has three major football nations of the East ( hence the name A3) induced a focus its own international club competition as a counterweight to the Arab Champions League.
Mode

League Korean K -League and the Chinese premier league along with another starter from the host country for a week-long tournament in a single stadium together.
