A3D

Aureal 3rd Dimension Technology ( A3D ) is a system developed by Aureal sound method to make it appear ambient noise in computer games as real as possible and to provide surround sound.

The sound procedure was for the first time in 1997 with NASA for flight simulations for use and then also found a place in the PC gaming area.

A3D was a direct competitor to format Creatives EAX and was published in two versions ( A3D and A3D 2.0) was being supports A3D 2.0 only very few sound cards. Since 2000, the support and the development of A3D was set as the company Aureal of Creative, was after several lawsuits, bought up in court because of the sound technology.

An important advantage of A3D EAX was compared with that of the entire path of a sound could be calculated with A3D. Not only was considered, on which materials meets a sound, but also come from which direction sounds mirrored. While in EAX a sound is coming from only one direction, or from anywhere, can be calculated with A3D that the sound only goes directly to character, then again reflected from wall XY and so on. EAX calculated for reflections only reflection effects, A3D calculates the correct path of the sound and thus no reflection effect, but the reflection of itself as it really occurs.
