The Polish Autostrada A6 is a largely finished, partly also to modernizing, toll- free motorway section, the Szczecin from west to east, bypassing. The A6 has a total length of approximately 30 kilometers and serves as a continuation of the German Autobahn 11 from Berlin.

History

The highway was built already in the Third Reich to about its present end at Lenz (exit Stargard / Massow ), the last kilometers were only single lane. Originally an extension of up to Elbing and thus a connection to the motorway there starting to Königsberg ( Prussia) was provided. This was initially a difficult task, because Prussia was separated by the separation according to the Treaty of Versailles from the rest of the state and thus was an exclave. The Polish government refused to build a highway through their territory from. After the conquest of Poland in World War II the route to Rummelsburg and in two short sections in the former corridor and south of Danzig was put into construction, but all the work due to the war in 1942 have been set.

In the network for Polish motorways and expressways in 1945 a continuation of the path in the Danzig is provided. This connection will be realized as S6.

Building and planning

The GDDKiA plans aufzustufen the section between the nodes Kijewo and Rzęśnica to the highway. To achieve this, further modernization work is needed. These were divided into several stages.

First, the modernization of the road surface and the lighting on a 2.2 km long section that begins about one kilometer east of the existing highway interchange Kijewo and about 500 meters east of the newly planned highway interchange Tczewska ends was realized. Work began on 12 September 2011 with the signing of the contract with the construction company Budimex and ended with the traffic handover on December 21, 2012. Construction costs amounted to 15 million zlotys.

The next stage encompasses the construction of a new highway interchange Tczewska. The call was launched in February 2012. After several protests by various construction companies signing the contract between the GDDKiA and Eurovia Polska took place on 2 July 2013. The end of construction is targeted for July 2014. The construction costs amount to 16 million zlotys.

Among the next steps in the conversion of an approximately one -kilometer long motorway section that starts one kilometer east of the node Kijewo and ends with this, as well as the node Kijewo counts itself In addition, the conversion of the node Rzęśnica for height free nodes and the construction of a green bridge is located west of node Rzęśnica planned. Finally, you want the rest of the section that begins about 500 meters east of the node and the node Tczewska Rzęśnica ends to be modernized. The realization of all these stages is dependent on whether and how many financial subsidies are provided. Therefore, there is no timetable.

In addition, should the original section of the S3 and S6 between nodes Rzęśnica and Goleniów be extended also to the highway. This would make the entire section, starting on the German border, to the motorway junction " Goleniów " where the A6 should be split to S3 and S6, passable as a motorway. This has now been abandoned due to financing difficulties. This section will remain posted as Droga ekspresowa.
