The Swiss motorway connects 6 Biel / Bienne via Bern to Thun. The A6 is entirely in the canton of Bern and has above all a great regional importance, which is why only the portion of Berne to the Bernese Oberland is part of the national road network.

Course

The core of the present-day A6 is the national road N6, which begins as a diversion of the A1 at Wankdorf and via Muri bei Bern and Thun, the so-called branching Lattigen where the N8/A8 on towards Interlaken - leads Brünigbahn. The N6 branches at the branching Lattigen from Brodhüsi direction and ends with the Simmenfluh tunnel. After the tunnel, the main road continues towards the Simmental. The N6 is running its entire length, as separately for each direction highway. An earlier planning of the A6 by the Simmental and a Rawil tunnel into the Valais was definitely discarded in the 80s.

No national road section is the A6 between Biel / Bienne and Schoenbuehl. It is in possession of the Canton of Bern. The former number -less cantonal highway between Schoenbuehl and Lyss North is now marked as A6. The same applies to the non-directional separate cantonal highway between North and Lyss Biel / Bienne. The highway now leads into the city of Biel, but is to be connected with the construction of the A5 at this. For this purpose, it is provided to the west of today's connection port to create the branch Brüggmoos.
