The Northern Road is an urban motorway in the west of Sydney in the east of the Australian state of New South Wales. It combines the Narellan Road and Camden Valley Way Narellan with the Windsor Road, Hawkesbury Valley Way and the Putty Road in Windsor. Together with the (shorter) Narellan Road, it forms an outer, western buckle around the Greater Sydney Campbelltown up to Windsor.

History

In December 1998, the four-lane road was opened, replacing the state road 69 on the same route. Together with the Southern Freeway (R1 ), the Appin Road ( S69 ) of the Narellan Road ( Met- 9) and the Putty Road ( S69 ), it forms a western bypass of Greater Sydney from Wollongong up to Singleton.

Course

In The Northern Road Narellan is an extension of Narellan Road (Met 9) to the northwest. In Luddenham branch off to the east of Elizabeth Drive Cecil direction from Park ( Sydney ) and West Park Road direction Wallacia. The Northern Road turns north. In Penrith South Western Motorway crosses (Met 4) and immediately afterwards, in Kingwood, the parallel Great Western Highway ( S44).

In Llandlo to The Northern Road turns to the northeast, while the Londonderry Road continues north to Richmond. Then the road forms the north western boundary of Castlereagh Nature Reserve, a state nature reserve. In Bligh Park it clips the western tip of the Windsor Downs Nature Reserve, a further state nature reserve, the Blacktown Road ( S63) branches off to the north-west towards Richmond from and the Richmond Road ( S63) to the southeast, towards Oakhurst ( Sydney ).

A little later Windsor is reached. There first branches of the Hawkesbury Valley Way (S40 ) to the west, towards Richmond, from. A few kilometers further ends The Northern Road at the Windsor Road (Met 2 / S40) and its sequel, the Putty Road ( S69 ).

Importance

The Northern Road connects the Western Motorway, located on the Olympic site towards the city from the year 2000, with the International Regatta Centre in Cranebrook.
