Aachener Bachverein

The Aachen Bach Society is the oratorio choir of the Evangelical church of Aachen. It was in 1913 or in 1919 by Heinrich Boell (1890 - 1947) founded and is since 2008 under the direction of George Hage. Is native of Aachen Bach Society at the 1748 by Johann Josef Couven built Protestant Anne's Church in Aachen.

Design and Structure

With around 120 members of all ages and denominations of the Aachen Bach Society is one of the most traditional art initiatives in the region. Continuity and quality are hallmarks of his contribution as a renowned orchestras of the imperial city of Aachen. The performance of the vocal works of Johann Sebastian Bach is a focus of the Aachen Bach Society; equally he feels the entire oratorio repertoire from early baroque committed to the present. His instrumental partners include the Prague Philharmonic, the German Radio Chamber Orchestra and the Symphony Orchestra Aachen and Hamburg Baroque Orchestra, the Chamber Orchestra Barocco Locco. As a choir of the Protestant church he designed the church music at the Aachen Anna Church.

The Chamber Choir of Aachen Bach Society, founded in 1992 as a select ensemble of the oratorio choir, is especially dedicated to the care of a cappella music and take you to brief and intense rehearsals lesser-known works of the 17th and 18th centuries as well as contemporary choral literature for performance. He works together with well-known instrumental ensembles such as Concerto Farinelli, Les Cornets Noirs or the Aachen Bach Orchestra.

With the nationally significant cultural festival in Aachen Bach Festival, initiated in 1974 by Johannes Geffert, the Aachen Bach Society sets of each year, an artistic focus. The concert series presents the works of Johann Sebastian Bach in a musical history as extra-musical context. Also on rarely heard choral works, the Aachen Bach Society dares approach again and again. Since 2008, there will be a growing stylistic expansion by the inclusion of jazz improvisation and the avant-garde.

Artistic Director

In the years of its existence, the Aachen Bach Society was headed by well-known personalities, so by, among other things:

  • Erhard Mauersberger, line 1925-1929
  • Hans Klotz, conductor 1929-1939
  • Hans Hulverscheidt has again brought the club after interruptions because of the Second World War in 1956 to life and led him to 1974
  • Johannes Geffert, led the Bach Society from 1974 to 1979 and founded the Aachen Bach Festival
  • Heribert Breuer, line 1979-1983
  • Wolfgang Karius, led the Bach Society from 1983 to 2008, pleaded for the purchase of new Weimbs organ for the Church of St. Anna
  • George Hage, directs the Bach Society since 2008
