AAI RQ-7 Shadow

The AAI RQ -7 Shadow is a tactical unmanned aerial vehicle that is being developed for military reconnaissance by day and night from the U.S. manufacturer AAI Corporation and produced since 1999.

Construction

The education system consists of an unmanned aircraft, a modular payload, a ground station as well as start, return and communication equipment. The system further includes supplies and spare parts for a 72 -hour mission. For transporting two HMMWVs for equipment and personnel are used.

A reconnaissance unit consists of three drones and a replacement unit, three subway stations, equipment for starting and landing and vehicles for transport. The complete system can be installed in a C -130 transport aircraft. The lightweight aircraft is made of composite material, has a wingspan of 3.9 m and a length of 3.4 m. The engine consists of a standard, petrol-powered rotary engine with an output of 28 kW (38 hp). The payload includes one each optoelectronic and an infrared camera, the flight control and communication equipment for image transmission. The navigation is done via the satellite-based Global Positioning System. The maximum range of the drone is limited by the possible loss of radio contact to the ground station and is 125 km.
