History

The roots of the AAP are the India Against Corruption movement to the activist Anna Hazare. Hazare came in April 2011 on a hunger strike to force the Indian government to adopt a more stringent anti - corruption legislation. Hazare's activism widened soon from india to a wide mass movement. During the year 2012 there were in the leadership of the anti - corruption movement, the so-called Team Anna, a split on the question of political participation: While Hazare spoke out for it not to participate in party politics, wanted a group to Arvind Kejriwal a party found to change the political system from within. On November 26, 2012, the anniversary of the entry into force of the Constitution of India, the AAP was formally established in Delhi. In March 2013, the Indian Election Commission, the AAP officially registered as a party.

The AAP participated in the regional elections in the capital territory of Delhi on December 4, 2013 for the first time in elections part. As a result of the election, the party won 28 of 70 constituencies and became the second most powerful force behind the Hindu nationalist Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP ), while the hitherto ruling Congress party was also routed, and fell back to third place. Since none of the three camps could win an outright majority and the parties had excluded one cooperation with each other in advance of the election, followed by a political stalemate. Finally, the AAP decided, however, to form a minority government with the support of the Congress Party. On December 28, 2013 Arvind Kejriwal as Chief Minister ( head of government) of Delhi was sworn. After less than two months Kejriwal entered but back because an important from the perspective of AAP anti-corruption law has been blocked in Parliament. The Vice Governor Made Delhi then on February 16, 2014, President's rule.

The AAP has announced to compete in the all-India general election 2014 in 20 of 28 states. It is expected that the AAP will achieve success especially in the urban areas and can establish itself as possibly either decisive third force besides the Congress Party and the BJP.
