Aarhus Theatre

The Aarhus Theatre ( Aarhus Teater ) in Aarhus is the largest regional theater (country Dels Scene ) in Denmark.

History

It was built to replace the old theater Svedekassen. Aarhus grew during the 19th century to Jutland 's largest city, and the old theater had become too small for the audience. As of August 12, 1898, therefore, a new theater was built to a design by Danish architect Hack Kampmann. After two years of construction, which was completed and was inaugurated on 15 September 1900. The Art Nouveau building is now a historical monument.

Every year the theater is visited by about 100,000 viewers. It has approximately 150 permanent employees and a large number of freelancers.

The Aarhus Theatre runs a drama school and a playwright school.

Platforms

The theater hosts under its umbrella five stages. The stages were converted over time or renovated to meet the current requirements of the theater.

  • Big stage, with time still 1000 seats originally the only stage was (currently 700 seats)
  • Scala, the early 50s was added (270 seats)
  • Studio, 1968 ( approximately 100 people )
  • Cuttings, 1982 ( approximately 100 people )
  • Cabaret stage and Scala Lounge, opened in 1990 ( approximately 100 people )

The Cafe Hack is a coffee shop in the building of the Aarhus Theatre, named after its architect Hack Kampmann.
