Aaron Mike Oquaye

Mike Aaron Oquaye ( born April 4, 1944) is a Ghanaian high school teacher, lawyer, political scientist, diplomat and politician. In the administration of President John Agyekum Kufuor, he was first Minister of Energy and later Minister of Communications. The latter office put Oquaye voluntarily July 31, 2007 down to become his party, the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) as a candidate in the presidential elections of 2008.

Oquaye studied at the University of Ghana and the University of London. He has a bachelor's degree ( Hons. ) in Political Science, the LL.B. ( Hons. ) in Law, the B.L. and a doctorate in law. Oquaye is Barrister of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. He is also in the list of the lawyers of the Bar Association of Ghana and has spent several years working as a solicitor for several leading companies, banks and consulting companies in Ghana.

Oquaye has won several academic prizes and awards. Including in 1993 the Rockefeller Senior Scholar Award, and in 1997 the Senior Fulbright Scholar Award. From the Ghana Academy of Arts and Sciences him the Silver Award ( silver award ) was awarded for his work in the field of social sciences in Ghana. He has shown a wide range of publications in academic journals in the U.S., Canada, UK, India and Africa. His scientific work includes a discussion on the areas of military rule in Africa, democratization in Africa, decentralization, development, colonialism and more.

Oquaye renowned as an advocate of women's rights. In Ghana, he was between 2001 and 2005 as High Commissioner diplomatic representative in India. Between January 2005 and April 2006, he was Minister of Energy. Since April 2006 he has been Minister of Communications. Oquaye has a seat in Parliament as a member of the New Patriotic Party (NPP ) held for the constituency Dome Kwabenya.

Mike Oquaye is married to Alberta Oquaye.
