Aaron Peirsol

Aaron Peirsol (2008)

Aaron Wells Peirsol ( born July 23, 1983 in Irvine, California) is a retired American swimmer trodden, during his playing career, he was among other things, a five-time Olympic champion, sixteen -time world champion and world record holder.

Career

Peirsol was in 1999 at age 15 the youngest swimmer who swam the 200m backstroke under two minutes. The following year, he won at the Olympic Games in Sydney behind his teammate Lenny Krayzelburg silver medal in the 200m backstroke.

Immediately on his first appearance at the World Swimming Championships in Fukuoka in 2001 he won also the 200 m backstroke. Three more world titles than 100 m backstroke, 200 m backstroke, as well as with the U.S. 4 × 100 m medley relay at the world swimming championships followed in 2003 in Barcelona. At the 2005 World Championships in Montreal, Canada Peirsol defended all three titles and was thus again world champion over 100 m and 200 m backstroke and the medley relay.

At the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens Peirsol was three -time Olympic champion over 100 m and 200 m backstroke, as well as the U.S. 4 × 100 m medley relay. His victory in 200m backstroke was only awarded to him afterwards. Although he had won the competition well before the Austrian Markus Rogan, Peirsol was initially disqualified because the referee had detected an illegal kicking at a turning point. After protest the U.S. team leading the disqualification was lifted on the formal ground, the Japanese referee did not like the exclusion prescribed pronounced in French and in English. At the Olympic Summer Games in Beijing in 2008 he won a single and a squadron gold medal.

Peirsol lived, studied and trained in Austin at the University of Texas.

After he had at the Pan Pacific Swimming Championships his last competition contested in 2010, Peirsol was in February 2011 at the age of 27, his retirement from competitive sport known.
