Abamectin

Abamectin is a natural fermentation product of Streptomyces avermitilis. Abamectin is used to control plant pests ( effect against mites and insects), for its acaricidal and insecticidal activity. Abamectin is also effective against roundworms ( nematodes) and is used in veterinary medicine against worms and various ectoparasites of cattle. In the German-speaking countries no finished product are approved.

Chemical Properties

Abamectin consists of two very similar molecules ( at least 80% avermectin B1a and not more than 20% avermectin B1b ), both of which belong to the group of avermectins. Abamectin is substantially insoluble in water and is destroyed by acids or ultraviolet radiation.
