It was continued at the tour with A band on tour. This led the band in 1998/99 for the first time in 15 years to Australia. 1999 also appeared as the live album and DVD Total Abandon: Australia '99, which was recorded in Melbourne on 20 April 1999. Abandon fell stylistically harder than previous albums.

Stephen Thomas Erlewine wrote that the band was " not as young and energetic as before, but she is willing to try out new material, what you do not have all the legends of rock can tell from the 1970s. " The entry of Steve Morse had " revitalized " the band.
