Abantiades (mythology)

As Abantiades ( ancient Greek Ἀβαντιάδης ) are referred to in Greek mythology, the offspring of Abas, son of Lynceus and king of Argos, or Abas, the son of the seer Melampus.

The term is found in Ovid as a nickname for the son of the Argive Abas Acrisius and Apollonius of Rhodes for Kanethos. Kanthos, the grandson of Abas is called in the Orphic Argonautica as Abantiades and his great-grandson Perseus turn in Ovid.

As a term for descendants of the seer Abas Abantiades be found in Apollonius of Rhodes as epithet of the seer Idmon.
