Abay Opera House

The Abai Opera House (actually State Kazakh academic Abai Opera and Ballet House; Kazakh: Абай атындағы қазақ мемлекеттік академиялық опера және балет театры, Russian: Казахский государственный академический театр оперы и балета имени Абая ) is an opera house in the Kazakh city Almaty.

It was founded in 1934, the present building but is located only since 1941.

History

The first performance took place in the libretto " Aiman ​​- Sholpan " the Kazakh writer Mukhtar Äuesow on 13 January 1934.

1935 an opera was performed in the Opera House for the first time. It was the work of Carmen by French composer Georges Bizet. Three years after the performance of Carmen Ballet was founded in the theater through the performance of Swan Lake.

In 1941, the theater has been honored with an honorary title as an academic theater. In the same year, finally, the first performance in the new building took place on November 7.

On the 100th birthday of Abai Qunanbajuly the theater in 1945, was named after him.
