Abaye

Abaye ( Abbaje / Abajje / bar Abaye Nachmani ) was a Babylonian amora of the fourth generation ( 320-350 ).

Having grown up with and companion of Raba ( Rawa ) in Pumbedita, with whom he has had many debates ( this hawajot Abaye we- raba are the epitome of Talmudic dialectics and make a big part of the discussion in the Babylonian Talmud, largely followed the halacha think Rawas ).

Abaye lived about 280-339, was the son of Kajlil, who was a brother of Rabbah (h ) bar Nachmani.

Abaye was a pupil of his uncle Rabbah and especially Joseph ( Rabbi Yosef bar Hiyya ). When his successor Abaye was five years school principal in Pumbedita before his ( own ) death.

Abaye is not to be confused with the Palestinian amora of the second generation.
