Abbenrode is a town in the northern Harz in the district of Harz in Saxony -Anhalt.

Geographical Location

Abbenrode is located on the plug near the border with Lower Saxony in northern Harz Foreland.

History

King Lothar III. confirmed on 13 June 1129 that the sale of the farm Abbenrode in Harzgau in the Duchy of Duke Henry has been confirmed by Count Palatine Friedrich von Putelendorf of Gebhard von Lochten in his presence. Abbenrode was the seat of a monastery, which was largely destroyed in the Peasants ' War of 1525, was abolished in 1554 and is now completely gone.

Abbenrode was more influenced by agricultural by the proximity to the former inner-German border. Many farms fell into disrepair, and there was little immigration. Since the opening of the border itself, however, has changed this. Coat of arms

The coat of arms was approved on 16 March 2009 by the county.

Blazon: ". Oblique split of red and green with silver thread right, above a golden millstone with free Mahlauge and two asked after the division averted golden ears, down a sloping golden key with a beard up to the plate towards the edge and square closing sheet"

Referring to the former monastery, which contributed to the development of the town, on the fact that Abbenrode was a mill village and agriculture was an essential economic basis for the inhabitants to Abbenrode created in self- test, a coat of arms and established the well, the red in the diagonally split green shield key, mill wheel and ear showed.
