Abbeyshrule

Abbeyshrule ( Irish: Mainistir Shrúthla; German as " Monastery at the flow ") is a village in County Longford, Ireland. It lies approximately between Mullingar and Ballymahon. The River Inny and the Royal Canal intersect approximately 1km north-east, with an aqueduct carries the canal over the river. In the village there is also a small inland port in the channel.

In the sacristy of the Catholic Church almost 1m high stone cross is kept, which originally belonged to Abbeyshrule Abbey. The remains of the monastery founded as a subsidiary of Mellifont Abbey monastery located 300m south of the site.

There is also an airfield for small aircraft.

The place grew - mainly thanks to new roads in the region - around the mid -2000s almost doubled to. The area is sparsely populated and the individual farms are located far apart.
