Abbotsford Heat

The Abbotsford Heat are a Canadian ice hockey franchise from Abbotsford, British Columbia. They play since the 2009/10 season in the American Hockey League and play their home matches at the 7,046 -seat end Abbotsford Entertainment & Sports Centre. The team colors are white, red, black and silver.

History

The Abbotsford Heat are the new AHL farm team of the Calgary Flames of the National Hockey League after they had finished working with the existing farm team, the Quad City Flames, after the 2008 /09 season due to lack of success and financial problems. The new name was officially announced on May 14, 2009. Previously, the new club had the fans given the opportunity on a web page to choose the name of the team.

As a head coach was on June 5, 2009, the former coach of the Calgary Flames, Jim Playfair, appointed. After his departure to the Phoenix Coyotes end of June 2011, his former assistant Troy Ward was promoted to head coach.
