History of the station

The TV was on 29 April 1977 as a spin-off of Pat Robertson's Christian Broadcasting Network (CBN ) under the name of CBN Satellite Service on the air and changed the name in 1981 for the first time in CBN Cable Network. In order to - in contrast to other cable stations - to point particularly family-friendly program, the station was renamed on 1 August 1988 in The CBN Family Channel. The commercial success of the cable station at risk now the non-profit status and associated privileges of the CBN, to which the former was made ​​independent in 1990 under the new name of The Family Channel.

The parent company International Family Entertainment was acquired in July 1997 by Fox Kids Worldwide, whose name was subsequently changed in Fox Family Worldwide. To emphasize the affiliation of the Family Channel as the new parent company, it was renamed on August 15, 1998, Fox Family Channel.

On 24 October 2001, Fox Family Worldwide by the two owners - News Corporation and Haim Saban - sells for around 2.9 billion U.S. dollars to the Walt Disney Company and renamed ABC Family Worldwide. So far the last name change to ABC Family also took place at the cable station on 10 November 2001.
