ABC (newspaper)

Diario ABC is a Spanish daily newspaper published in Madrid. It first appeared on January 1, 1903 as a weekly newspaper, from June 1903 twice a week and is published daily since June 1, 1905. ABC was founded by Torcuato Luca de Tena y Alvarez - Ossorio and is now published by Diario ABC SL, belonging to the Vocento media group. Diario ABC is known to be conservative and monarchist newspaper. Today, in addition to the national main issue expenses for the regions of Madrid, Valencia, Catalonia, Castile and León, Andalusia, Galicia and the Canary Islands, and for the cities of Seville, Cordoba and Toledo appear. An overseas edition is published in Brussels.

By 1912, she appeared only in the capital, then an issue for the Spanish provinces was also issued. Since 1929 there is a local issue for Seville. With the proclamation of the Second Spanish Republic ABC was the voice of the supporters of the monarchy, whose leading representatives are all published in this journal. With the start of the Spanish Civil War on July 18, 1936 ABC was taken over in Madrid by the Popular Front government. During the Civil War, accordingly, published two versions of ABC: In Madrid, an output from the Republican side for their own areas was published, published in Sevilla Juan Ignacio Luca de Tena an issue for the territories of the rebels of the Unión Militar Española.

After March 28, 1939, the anti-republican forces Francisco Franco marched to Madrid, ABC Madrid returned to their original owners. Already the next day they released their first new edition. She appeared with the number 10,345 and thus continued directly to the output of 18 July 1936. In the Franco - era ABC was the best selling newspaper in Spain.

She is now behind the founded after the end of Francoism newspapers El País and El Mundo newspaper with the third- highest circulation in Spain. However, the daily sports newspaper Marca has a higher edition. In the year 2006 240.225 copies sold daily ABC on average.

ABC is now the only Spanish newspaper which is published in folio format. She is known for the products of its third page. In addition, it is characterized by a sophisticated, conservative and monarchist -oriented style and numerous well-known columnists.
