ABCDE
ABCDE ( A Better CD Encoder, formerly cdgrab ) is a command -line tool for reading audio CDs (English: Digital Audio Extraction, DAE, a so-called " ribs " ) for Unix-like operating systems such as Linux. It supports querying FreeDB and can encode in various formats, including ( Ogg ) Vorbis, FLAC, MP3 ( Ogg ) Speex, AAC and Musepack (MPP / MP ) and WAV.
It is distributed as free software in the source code under the terms of version 2 of the GNU General Public License ( GPL). It can be installed in most popular Linux distributions from the standard repositories. It is a shell script frontend to cdparanoia or icedax (successor of cdda2wav ) and other aid programs.
The project was initiated by Robert Woodcock, who developed the software to 2002. The first release ( version 0.2 ) was carried out on 21 February 1999 under the original name " cdgrab ". With version 0.8.4 of 2 November 1999, the name was changed to " abcde ", since under the name " cdgrab " Since 1993, another CD ripper for DOS exists, which was still under active development. 2002 Robert was succeeded by Jesus Climent.
