Abdallah Ibrahim

Moulay Abdallah Ibrahim (Arabic: عبد الله إبراهيم, DMG ʿ Abd Allāh Ibrāhīm; born August 24, 1918 in the province of Al Haouz, † 11 September 2005 in Casablanca ) was the Prime Minister and Foreign Minister of Morocco in the years 1958 until 1960.

Early years

Abdallah Ibrahim studied at the Ibn Yusuf in Marrakesh University and the Sorbonne in Paris. From 1944 to 1959 he was a member of the bourgeois- nationalist Istiqlal Party ( Independence Party ) 1950-52 and worked in the editorial department of the Istiqlal institution " Al Alam ", for which he was imprisoned 1952-54.

Government and Opposition

In the first national government of independent Morocco Ibrahim 1955-56 was first Secretary of State ( Minister ) for Information and Tourism, 1956-57 then Minister of Labour and Social Affairs. In 1958 he was appointed by King Mohammed V. prime minister and foreign minister.

Ibrahim tried to consolidate the sovereignty of Morocco and to develop the economy of the Kingdom. During his reign, the regime was "open door " eliminated and restored the customs jurisdiction of Morocco. In connection with the Ifni War Morocco won 1958, the Tarfaya region ( southern Morocco ) from Spain back.

Ibrahim's anti-imperialist national democratic course and be of France and the USA too independent course ( commitment to resolution of the military bases, following the Casablanca group) led in January 1959 to cleavage of the Istiqlal Party and on 20 May 1960, Ibrahim's dismissal by the King, who first took the reins of government affairs, before he died in 1961.

National Union of Popular Forces

In the cleavage of the Istiqlal Party Ibrahim joined the Mahdi Ben Barka -led and Muhammad Basri radical ( left ) on wings that formed the Union Nationale des Forces Populaires ( UNFP ). From 1959-72 was Ibrahim Secretary General of the UNFP, which operated between Istiqlal Party and the Communist Party.
