Abdel Rahman Shalgham

Abdel Rahman Shalgham (Arabic عبد الرحمن شلقم; * 1949 ) is the UN Ambassador of Libya (February 2011). From 2000 to 2009 he was the Foreign Minister of Libya.

Biography

After achieving a Bachelor's degree in Media Studies at the University of Cairo in 1972, he worked as editor in chief from 1975 to 1977 at the newspaper El- fajir El- jadid, and from 1977 to 1979 in Weekly Cultural and Political Weekly. His first government post was from 1981 to 1983 as an information secretary. From 1984 to 1995 he was eleven years of Libyan ambassador to Italy. From 1998 to 2000 he was foreign affairs spokesman of the General People's Congress of Libya. In 2000 he took the post as Secretary of State, of which he was replaced by Moussa Koussa, 2009.
