Abdourahman Waberi

Abdourahman A. Waberi ( born July 20, 1965 in Djibouti City) is a Djiboutian shear writer.

Waberi was born in 1965 in what was then French Somaliland and is a member of the ethnic group of Somali. He lived to the age of twelve in 1977 as Djibouti from France became independent. In 1985 he went to France to study at the University of Caen and the University of Burgundy in Dijon English literature. He completed his studies with a thesis on the author Nuruddin Farah Somali, whom he declared to be admired.

In 1994 his first short story collection Le Pays sans Ombre, which was awarded the Grand prix de la nouvelle francophone the Académie Royale de Langue et de Littérature Française de Belgique and the Prix Albert Bernard of the Académie des Sciences d' Outre- mer de Paris. In 1996 Cahier nomad, the Grand Prix de l' Afrique noire Littéraire received, appeared in 1997 with Balbala his first novel. These three works form a trilogy about Djibouti and the Horn of Africa.

L' oeil nomad, voyage à travers le pays de Djibouti combines texts of Abdourahman Waberi and photographs by John Liebenberg, Pierrot Men and Yves pitching from Djibouti. Published in 2000 Waberi after a stay in Rwanda during the project letter from the duty to remember Moisson de crânes. In 2002 he released Waberi first book of poetry Les Nomads mes frères, vont boire à la Grande Ourse. His novella " Somali women of Canada " was part of the anthology " Amazing / storage end travelers. New Voices from Africa ". Finally, the novel Aux Etats- Unis d' Afrique (2006) came out, the wealthy " United States of Africa " describes in a satirical inversion of the present conditions that are faced with immigrants from the impoverished, war-ravaged Europe and North America. This novel was also taken as a criticism of Europe's immigration policy and global inequalities, within Africa in particular as a plea for Pan-Africanism.

Works by Waberi have been translated into English, Italian, Spanish, Portuguese, Serbian and German. Waberi living as an English teacher in Caen and has worked for African literature and collaborator of Le Monde diplomatique as a literary critic, Literaturkonsultant the Paris publisher Serpent à Plumes. 2006/2006 he stayed as a guest of the DAAD in Berlin.
