Abdul Hafiz Ghoga

Abdul Hafiz Ghoga (Arabic عبد الحفيظ غوقة; * in Benghazi ) is a Libyan lawyer and politician. He was early March 2011, the leader and spokesman in April 2011 and vice chairman of the National Transitional Council. Ghoga acted as Chairman of the Bengasischen Bar Association and as a defender of political prisoners.

Life

Abdul Hafiz Ghoga met Muammar Gaddafi for the first time on February 6th 2011, eleven days before the uprising. Gaddafi sent for Abdul Hakim Ghoga evening together with the lawyers Medhi Kashbur and two other lawyers from Benghazi to his tent in Tripoli. The meeting lasted ninety minutes. Abdullah Sanusi, a brother of Gaddafi and intelligence chief, was also present. The four lawyers demanded freedom of the press, freedom of expression and a constitution. After the meeting with Gaddafi, who was after the presentation Ghogas visibly irritated by the proposed requirements, decided the four lawyers, 17 February "Day of Rage" in Benghazi to declare.

Ghoga was during the civil war in Libya in 2011 of the first activists in the National Transitional Council and, after various terms as Vice President of the Council. On the weekend of 21 and 22 January 2012, he announced in response to strong protests and the storming of the seat by protesters on January 21 at his resignation.
