Abdul Hamid (politician)

Abdul Hamid ( Bengali: আব্দুল হামিদ ) ( born January 1, 1944 in Mithamoin, British India ) is a Bangladeshi politician and, since April 24, 2013, the 20th President of Bangladesh. He was the Speaker ( Parliament Speaker ) of the Jatiyo Sangshad of Bangladesh and in this capacity since March 14, 2013 Office of the President of this country and thus the successor of Zillur Rahman. Abdul Hamid was officially elected on 22 April 2013 as the President.

Life

Hamid visited the Gurudayal Government College in Kishoreganj and then studied at the Central Law College, Dhaka University, where he earned a degree as a lawyer. At the court of Kishoregonj he became a lawyer and was several times president of the local Bar Association.

Political career

Abdul Hamid began his political career as a student in Kishoreganj. That's why he was arrested by the Pakistani government in the early 1960s. Between 1970 and 2009 he was elected seven times in the parliament.

Hamid became deputy after the government was formed by the Awami League in 1996 Speaker of the National Parliament, and he was appointed deputy chairman of the opposition party in the National Assembly in 2001. From July to October 2001, he held the post of speaker. On 25 January 2009 he was elected with the votes of all deputies for the second time to the Speaker of Parliament.

On March 14, 2013 Hamid was acting head of state, because President Rahman was admitted to a hospital in Singapore, where he died six days later.
