The Abe Lenstra Stadion is a football stadium in the northern Dutch town of Heerenveen, Friesland Province. It serves primarily as a venue for the SC Heerenveen, who plays in the Eredivisie. The stadium is named after the football player Abe Lenstra from Heerenveen, who died on September 2, 1985.

History

The stadium was first built in 1994 with a capacity of 14,500 seats, in the following years, however, this was expanded to 26,800 covered seats. In the stadium there is an à la carte restaurant called The Atmosphere, 22 meeting rooms and 39 lodges and a grocery discount market. In the event rooms can be used for various purposes such as conferences, weddings, family reunions, etc.. The rooms have a capacity of 10-5000 people. In addition, there is one of the Fryslân Fean Plaza.

U-21 European Football Championships 2007

The stadium in Heerenveen was one of four venues for the U -21 Football Championship in 2007. Three games in Group A and a semi-final took place at the Abe Lenstra Stadion. In the semifinal against England Netherlands until the 32th penalty kick decided the penalty shoot-out in favor of the hosts.
