Abel Carlevaro

Abel Julio Carlevaro Casal ( born December 16, 1916 in Montevideo, Uruguay, † 17 July 2001 in Berlin, Germany ) was a Uruguayan composer and guitarist.

Life

Carlevaro came, as did his brother Agustín Carlevaro, even as a child in contact with the guitar: His father, a doctor, he built his first instrument. At age 20, after abandoning his studies for an agricultural engineer at the University of Montevideo, learned Abelaro Andrés Segovia know who influenced him as well as Heitor Villa-Lobos, Manuel María Ponce and Kurt Lange. In 1948 Carlevaro on a European tour, but turn unto 1951 without the hoped-for success back to Uruguay. From 1958 to 1980 he taught at the Municipal Conservatory in Montevideo and wrote until 1973, his series Didacta para guitarra and 1979, based among other things on a new posture according to anatomical principles Escuela de la guitarra: " The basis of Carlevaro method, the inclusion of the entire body into its instrumental theory based on his observations of the natural movement ".

From 1993 until his death, it was Carlevaro the " master class guitar with Abel Carlevaro " in the Vogtland Erlbach. He died shortly before the Erlbacher Summer Course in Berlin in 2001, the course was continued by his student Eduardo Fernández.
