Abel is a lunar crater in the northwest of Mare Australe on the lunar front side. Located just south of Barnard crater.

The crater rim is heavily eroded and of irregular shape. He was incised and overlain by several impact craters. The crater Abel A superimposed on the southern edge, while Abel and Abel L M penetrate the western rim.

The inner face of the east was newly designed by lava flows, so that a relatively flat surface was created with low albedo. In the west the ground is rough and the albedo corresponds to the terrain surrounding the crater.
