Abelardo Colomé Ibarra

Abelardo " Furry " Colome Ibarra ( born November 13, 1939 in Santiago de Cuba ) is a Cuban politician of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC ), Vice- President of the State Council, Lieutenant-General and Minister of the Interior.

Biography

Colome Ibarra started to become politically early after the start of high school and was one of the members of the 26th of July Movement, which led by Fidel Castro during the Cuban Revolution organization. On November 30, 1956, he participated in the organized by Frank País uprising in Santiago de Cuba and joined in March 1957 the rebellion forces ( Ejército Rebelde ) at. In March 1958 he participated in the troops under the leadership of Raúl Castro battles in the Sierra Cristal in part, the area was called after the death of País Eastern Front 2 " Frank País ". In the following years he took part in battles over and over again the rebellion forces in the course of which he was eventually promoted in December 1958 to the Comandante of the rebellion troops.

After the Revolution he rose to within the Revolution Armed Forces ( FAR) and the Ministries of the armed forces and of the Interior. In July 1961 he was one of the founders of the ORI, emerged from the October 3, 1965, the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC ). In 1962, he was the founder of the intelligence branch of the FAR. He was 1968 Chief of Army Group of the FAR in the north-east Cuba, and then in 1970 for a short time commander of the armed forces in the East ( Oriente ). In 1975 at the 1st Congress of the PCC his election as a member of the Central Committee and in the following year 1976 he was elected member of the National Assembly ( Asamblea Nacional del Poder Popular). On the second Party Congress in December 1980, he was elected as members of the Political Bureau of the CC, which he is a member since the 3rd Congress in February 1986. He eventually became interior minister of Cuba and the successor of Ramiro Valdés Menéndez 1989.

With the onset of illness of Fidel Castro, he was appointed on 31 July 2006 as a member of a seven-member committee, chaired by Raúl Castro, which has been commissioned for a transitional period with the leadership of Cuba. As interior minister, he heard because of his more than 50-year acquaintance with Raúl Castro to his closest confidants.

In the media Colome Ibarra was partially suspected as the successor Raúl Castro. 2008 was, however, appointed José Ramón Machado Ventura deputy Raúl as president, in 2011 then Deputy Chairman of the Communist Party of Cuba. Colome Ibarra is next to Tourism Minister Manuel Marrero, the only cabinet member appointed by Fidel Castro, which previously did not have to give up his ministerial office under Raúl Castro.
