Abelespelen

The Abelespelen ( Abele spelen ndl. Abel " smart, beautiful, artistically " to Latin habilis "appropriate" ) are the earliest surviving witness to the serious secular drama in the Dutch literature. They have been handed anonymously in the Brussels manuscript Van Hulthem from the mid-14th century.

There are four pieces for substances of courtly romance of the region Brabant - Limburg: Esmoreit, Gloriant, Lanseloet van Dene Bookmark and Season allegory Vanden winter end vanden Somer. Together the Abelespelen is the simplicity in some naive, gefühlbsbetonten language in rhyming couplets and action guide. The locations of the action be changed freely. On the performance usually followed by a Klucht. In the 15th century this was replaced by the so-called Zinnespelen.
