Aberdeen (Hongkong)

Aberdeen (香港 仔Chinese, Pinyin Xiang Gǎng Zǎi ) is a city on the south side of Hong Kong Iceland, located in the Southern District, Hong Kong. In Aberdeen, the Aberdeen Harbour is located.

Aberdeen Harbour has traditionally been a fishing port, earned their livelihood in the Tanka and Hoklo. Even today the harbor is known for the junks and sampans on the waterfront. Another tourist attraction is the Jumbo Kingdom, two floating restaurants in Aberdeen Harbour, which are only accessible by ferry.

Compared to Aberdeen Harbour is the island of Ap Lei Chau. The strait is the Aberdeen Channel, which is used as a protective area for boats with typhoons. For added protection, are piled up in the west and south of the channel piers.

In the center of Aberdeen live 20,000 inhabitants. Together with the neighboring villages of Tin Wan, Shek and Wong Chuk Hang Yue living in the area about 70,000 inhabitants.

Aberdeen in 1845 after the British Secretary of State for War and Colonies, George Hamilton - Gordon, 4th Earl of Aberdeen appointed. The Chinese name香港 仔means less fragrant harbor, from which the name derives Hong Kong. A common transcription is Heung Kong Tsai.
