Abhakara Kiartivongse

Admiral Abhakara Kiartiwongse, Prince of Chumphon, Thailand: พระองค์เจ้า อาภากร เกียรติ วงศ์, RTGS transcription Phra Ong Chao Aphakon Kiattiwong (pronounced [ p ʰ ráʔ ʔong ʨâw ʔa ː p ʰ a ː n ː ki ː kɔ attìwoŋ ]); full title in Thai: พระเจ้า บรม วงศ์ เธอ พระองค์เจ้า อาภากร เกียรติ วงศ์ กรม หลวง ชุมพร เขต อุดม ศักดิ์, (* December 19, 1880 Bangkok, † May 19, 1923 ibid ), was a Siamese Admiral, Prince and physicians.

Prince Chumphon was the 28th child of King Chulalongkorn (r. 1868-1910 ) and, as usual in Thailand due to the complicated pronunciation of frequently changing yet also official names of the members of the ruling family, the people especially among its short title Prince of Chumphon and various other nicknames known about เสด็จ เตี่ย ( Sadek Tia = Royal father) or หมอ พร (Mo Phon Phon doctor = ).

In his youth, Prince Chumphon studied the marine creatures in England and returned to Siam back to serve there in the Royal Navy, where he could make important contributions to the modernization and improvement of these weapons. He is revered as the father of the Thai navy.

Prince Chumphon studied alongside the Marine business too Medicine, where he was especially interested in the use of medicinal plants. As a doctor he worked for all strata and classes of hierarchically structured population of the country.

Prince Chumphon died on May 19, 1923 in Bangkok.
