Abhinav Bindra

Abhinav Bindra ( Punjabi: ਅਭਿਨਵ ਬਿੰਦਰਾ; born September 28, 1982 in Dehra Dun ) is an Indian sport shooter in the discipline air rifle.

Abhinav Bindra was by J. S. Dhillon discovered and is being trained by the Swiss Gaby Bühlmann since 2000. The semi-pro for the first time took part in the 2000 Sydney Summer Olympics. In a competition in Munich in 2001 he set a world record. 2002 won the studied host the Commonwealth Games in Manchester and was then with the major sports award of India, the Rajiv Gandhi Khel Ratna, awarded after he was honored in 2001 with the Arjuna Award. He participated in the 2004 at the Olympic Games in Athens, reaching there the final battle with the air rifle at 10 meters. In the final battle of the Chandigarher finished with 694.6 wrestling in seventh place. A year later, he finished at the Asian Championships in Bangkok in fourth place with 695.3 rings. A first outstanding success at the international level reached Bindra at the 2006 World Championships in Zagreb, where he won the title with the air rifle. The greatest success was two years later, winning the gold medal at the 2008 Olympic Games in Beijing. It was the first gold medal for an Indian in a single discipline, all the other eight gold medals India won up to Bindras Triumph hockey men.
