Cilician fir ( Abies cilicica )

The Cilician fir ( Abies cilicica ), also called Zilizische fir, is a species of the genus of fir (Abies ) in the pine family ( Pinaceae ). It occurs in small and West Asia.

Description

Vegetative characteristics

Occurrence

The Cilician fir is in Asia Minor and Western Asia in the Taurus Mountains, Anti- Taurus, Amano and Lebanon Mountains at altitudes from 1000 to 2100 meters in front.

At the sites dominated by mild, rainy winters and hot, dry summers. The species prefers calcareous soils, but grows in high rainfall on sandstone soils.   • Abies cilicica ( Antoine & Kotschy ) Carrière subsp. cilicica
  • Abies cilicica subsp. isaurica Coode et Cullen occurs in the Taurus region of Isauria.

Threats and conservation

The Abies cilicica subsp. cilicica is classified as " not at risk " in the IUCN Red List. The Abies cilicica subsp. isaurica is listed as " Near Threatened ". For both subspecies is stated that a review of the risk is necessary.
