Abinsk

Abinsk (Russian Абинск ) is a Russian district town with 34 928 inhabitants (as of October 14, 2010 ) in the Krasnodar region in southern Russia federal district. It lies on the Kuban Creek Abin, 75 km south-west of the regional capital Krasnodar. The nearest city (15 km north-west ) is Krymsk; the Black Sea port city of Novorossiysk is located about 35 km southwest of Abinsk.

History

Abinsk was founded in 1836 in place of a former Circassian settlement. At first the place was a Cossack Cossack village to the north of the Caucasus served the Russian Empire as one of the forts. At the same time, the settlement served as a place of exile, so, there were, among others, the Decembrists Bestuzhev, Odojewski and Katenin.

During the Soviet period Abinsk 1935 main town of the district of the newly formed ( Rajons ) Abinsk. By 1963, when the settlement was granted city rights, they bore the name Abinski (Russian Абинский ).

Historical mention is Abinsk also in connection with the deportation of the local Greeks from the circles Abinsk and Sewersk in 1942.

Economy and infrastructure

Abinsk is the center of an agricultural region, accordingly, the city's economy is based mainly on the food industry (wine, canned food). There are also, among others, construction material production and wood processing. In the vicinity of Abinsk is a petroleum - extraction area.

The main roads in the town is the A146 road that leads to Novorossiysk and Krasnodar. There is a rail connection with the passenger station Abinskaja.
