The Åbo Akademi University is a Swedish language university in Turku, Finland, the Swedish-language Åbo name is. It is not to be confused with the historic Academy of Turku, the predecessor of today's University of Helsinki. The Finnish-language University of Turku is not connected to the Åbo Akademi, although cooperation exists.

History

The Åbo Akademi was founded in 1918 as the second Finnish university after the University of Helsinki. The Swedish has always been the only one in the Finnish academic world spoken language.
