Abra el Acay (also Abra del Acay ) is called a mountain pass in the province of Salta in Argentina, about 30 kilometers south of San Antonio de los Cobres. The pass lies between the 5378 -meter high mountain Cerro Saladillo in the southwest and the 5716 meter high extinct volcano Nevado de Acay in the Northeast. The pass is about 4950 meters.

Height

At the top of the pass, there are different information. The sign on top of the pass shows a height of 4895 m. SRTM data from NASA would reach a height of about 4950 m.

Practicability

The lonely, dirt road, part of the Ruta Nacional 40 is usually, especially after rainfall, to cope with off-road vehicles. Not infrequently, the road is similar for landslide impassable. Nevertheless, it is possible to drive over the mountain road on a good day with a normal road car, with several small river crossings must be passed.
