Abraham Binder

Binder was the son of a cantor and began with five years in the choir of his father to sing. At the age of 14, he directed his first own choir in the Kamenetzer Synagogue. Ties studied at Columbia University. He made several study trips to Palestine. Since 1921 he was a teacher and since 1937 a professor at the Jewish Institute of Religion in New York. 1932 founded the binder Jewish Music Forum. He was also from 1922 musical director of the Stephen Wise Synagogue in New York.

He composed an opera, several orchestral suites and choral works. In addition, he collected and edited Jewish folk songs, of which he brought with him many of his research trips to Palestine and was first introduced in America.

Abraham Binder was married and had two daughters.
