Abraham J. Hostetler

Abraham Jonathan Hostetler ( born November 22, 1818 Washington County, Indiana, † November 24, 1899 in Bedford, Indiana ) was an American politician. Between 1879 and 1881 he represented the State of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Abraham Hostetler attended the common schools and then completed an apprenticeship as a blacksmith. Later, he also worked in agriculture. At the same time he proposed as a member of the Democratic Party launched a political career. Between 1854 and 1858 he sat in the Senate of Indiana.

In the congressional elections of 1878 he was in the eighth election district of Indiana in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of Morton C. Hunter on March 4, 1879. Since he has not been confirmed in 1880, he was able to complete only one term in Congress until March 3, 1881. In June 1880 he was a delegate to the Democratic National Convention in Cincinnati, was nominated on the Winfield Scott Hancock as a presidential candidate.

After his retirement from the U.S. House of Representatives Abraham Hostetler worked in retail. He died on November 24, 1899 near Bedford.
