Abraham Kovoor

Abraham Thomas Kovoor ( born April 10, 1898 in Thiruvalla, Kerala, India, † 18 September 1978) was a Sri Lankan professor of botany and rationalist. He achieved fame for his atheist exposure to so-called paranormal phenomena and the spread in India and Sri Lanka Godman ( god- men).

Life

Kovoor was born into a religious family, his father was Rev. Kovoor Eipe Thomma Katthanar, Vicar General of Mar Thoma Syrian Church of Malabar. He studied at Bengabasi College in Kolkata. He taught until his retirement in 1959 at various colleges Botany, most recently on Thurston College, Colombo. Only then began his tireless rationalist operation. His commitment to debunk spiritual frauds and organized religions, was very popular. It is Kovoor thanks to them that the movement of rationalism in India could be a highly dynamic. Many of his articles have been popularized by Joseph Edamarukus translations.

Unmasking of the guru Sathya Sai Baba

Sathya Sai Baba was one of the most famous Indian guru to Kovoors time and was therefore a main object of Kovoors educational work against alleged miracle worker. Sai Baba took his time claim for themselves, vibhuti, sacred ash to be able to materialize. Kovoor was convinced that this be done by a sleight of hand. To expose Sai Baba and similar, Dr. Kovoor brought holy ash seemingly out of nowhere produced and distributed them among his viewers. He told the audience then the feat and found that after a little practice this trick everyone can perform.
