Abraham Robinson McIlvaine

Abraham Robinson McIlvaine ( born August 14, 1804 in Ridley, Delaware County, Pennsylvania, † August 22 1863 in Chester County, Pennsylvania ) was an American politician. Between 1843 and 1849 he represented the State of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Career

Abraham McIlvaine attended the common schools and worked afterwards in Chester County in agriculture. Politically, he was a member of the Whig party. In 1836 and 1837 he was a member of the House of Representatives from Pennsylvania. In the congressional elections of 1842 he was in the seventh election district of Pennsylvania in the U.S. House of Representatives in Washington DC chosen, where he became the successor of John Westbrook on March 4, 1843. After two re- election he was able to complete in Congress until March 3, 1849 three legislative periods. These were shaped by the events of the Mexican-American War.

From 1843 to 1845 McIlvaine led the Committee to control expenditure of the War Department. In 1848, he was not nominated by his party for re-election. After the end of his time in the U.S. House of Representatives, he again worked in agriculture. He was also active in the iron business. Abraham McIlvaine died on August 22, 1863 at his estate Springton Manor Farm in Chester County.
