Abraham Skorka

Abraham Skorka ( born July 5, 1950 as abrahan Skorka in Buenos Aires) is an Argentine biophysicist, rabbi and author. Abraham Skorka is rector of the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary ( Seminario Rabinico Latinoamericano in Buenos Aires ), rabbi of the Jewish community Benei Tikva, professor of biblical and rabbinic literature in the Latin American Rabbinical Seminary and teacher of Talmudic law at the Catholic Universidad Católica Argentina in Buenos Aires as well as at the Jesuit Universidad del Salvador in Buenos Aires.

In 1979 he received a PhD in chemistry at the University of Buenos Aires. Skorka has published scientific papers in the field of biophysics and numerous articles in the field of biblical and Talmudic research.

Abraham Skorka led by the Archbishop of Buenos Aires Jorge Mario Bergoglio, later Pope Francis, a series of inter-religious talks on topics such as God, fundamentalism, atheists, death, holocaust, homosexuality and capitalism. The dialogues that took place alternately at the seat of the Bishop and the Jewish community Benei Tikva, combined the two in a book along with the title Sobre el Cielo y la Tierra ( On the Heavens and the Earth ).

Honors

  • On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the Second Vatican Council it the Universidad Católica Argentina awarded an honorary doctorate.
