Abrosaurus

  • Asia (Sichuan, China)

Abrosaurus is a genus of sauropod dinosaur and lived million years ago, about 167-161 during the Middle Jurassic.

A completely preserved skull of the sauropod was found in the Dashanpu lineup in China in 1984. In addition to the holotype nor a fragmentary preserved skull of the genus has been assigned.

The only species of the genus, Abrosaurus dongpoi, was described in 1986 in the dissertation by Ouyang Hui under the name Abrosaurus gigantorhinus. As a dissertation is not a valid first description according to ICZN, the name was first nudum as a noun. 1989 brought Ouyang publication in a newsletter of a Chinese regional museum after, this time under the name Abrosaurus dongpoensis. Because this time the Artepithet was formed grammatically wrong, there was a correction of the name to Abrosaurus dongpoi.
