Abu Mansur Maturidi

Muhammad ibn Muhammad ibn Mahmud Abu Mansur al- Maturidi al - Samarqandi al - Hanafi (Arabic محمد بن محمد بن محمود أبو منصور السمرقندي الماتريدي الحنفي, DMG Muḥammad b. Muḥammad b. Mahmud Abu Mansur al- Maturidi al - Samarqandi al - Hanafi ) (* 893 in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, † 941 ibid ) was the founder of the so-called Maatreediyyah theology.

Life

He was known for his strong and passionate rejection of the Mu'tazilah which he regarded as a breakaway sect and his enemies. Maturidi was a religious scholar and belonged to the Hanafi school, so he went to the Imam ( and theologians ) of this law school in finer matters of faith, he studied in the city Maturidi, near Samarkand. Among his teachers were Abu Nasr Ahmad b. Abbas b. Husayin al - Iyazi, Abu Bakr Ahmad b. Ishak b. Salih el- Juzjani, Nusayr b. Yahya al - Balkhi and Qadilqudat Muhammad b. Mukatil ar - Razi.

Abu Nasr al - Iyazi was his friend and teacher, he was the pupil of Abu Sulayman Musa b. Sulayman el- Juzjani in turn was the disciple of Abu Yusuf and ash- Schaybani, the so-called al - Hanafi imamayn (two imams ).

Abu Mansur al - Maturidi wrote mainly works to refute the views of the Mu'tazilah, Shiites and Qarmati. His theology is almost identical to that of Abu l -Hasan al - Ash'ari, except for some detailed questions. Both are considered important scholars of Ilm al - Kalam. Therefore, they are seen by their followers as a great mutakallimun.
