Abucay, Bataan

Abucay is a Philippine municipality in the province of Bataan 119 km north-west of Manila.

Attractions

  • Sto. Domingo Abucay Church. The spiritual welfare of Abucay was entrusted to the Dominicans in 1588. On June 23, 1647, a fierce battle between the Dutch invaders and defense forces of Pampango took place on the grounds of the church. This almost 200 Pampangos were killed, forty other with Spanish Alcalde Mayor ( Mayor ) and two Dominican priests were taken prisoner. The present church was severely damaged on 16 September 1852 by an earthquake. The church is one of the oldest in the Philippines
  • Tomas Pinpin Monument ( Baranggay Ibayo ). Was erected in memory of a famous Filipino printer. The monument stands on the site of Tomas Pinpin Memorial Elementary School.
  • Maria Canon Statue ( Sibul, Abucay ). Memorial for the fallen during WWII Japanese soldier.
  • Pasukulan cases (West Abucay ). A waterfall in a valley in the mountain Natib.
  • Sibul Spring ( West Abucay ). A source of sulphurous water.
  • Bataan National Park in the west of the municipality

Education

Since 1979, the Colegio de San Juan de Letran Bataan, which was initially established as a branch of the parent company in Intramuros since 1986 and is an independent private school of the Dominican Order is in Abucay.
